Normally called Blindman's boards, we think that
Touchboards is rather nicer. Instead of having black and white squares,
this board has half the squares raised so that it can be negotiated
by touch, and so that the pieces do not get knocked over, each square
is drilled with a peg hole which takes the peg which is fitted to
the base of the piece. To keep track of which piecces have been
removed from the board two additional rows of holes are placed at
either side of the board to take them (this is optional but we strongly
recommend it even though it makes the board larger).
If you have a set already which you would like us to adapt by fitting
the additional rows, we can usually do this, otherwise we can supply
you with a new pegged set. In order to distinguish one side from
the other, one half of the set has a small clear resin raised button
added to the top.
Touchsets are always made to order so you will need to contact
us so that we can work out exactly what your requirements
are. To give you some idea of the price, the set illustrated above
which is based on a 1 5/8 inch (40mm) square and made from leather
on timber (a very tactile combination) is £87 for the board
and £97 for the converted chess set. Prices vary according
to your particular needs. |
